KandaPoha is a staple Maharashtrian breakfast recipe made with flattened rice (Poha), onion (Kanda), spices and herbs. This light, refreshing and hassle free recipe is a perfect way to start your day along with piping hot cups of tea. Garnish it with sev and coconut with a dash of lemon juice and relish this simplest comfort food.
Ingredients
Poha : 2 cups
Onion : 1
Peanut : 2 tsp
Green chilli : 3 to 4
Sugar : 1 tsp
Turmeric powder : ½ tsp
Lemon juice : 1 tsp
Curry leaves : 4
Oil : 2 tsp
Salt as per taste
Step 1
Soak the poha with salt for a minute. Strain and keep it aside.
Step 2
Heat oil in a wok and add mustard seed and let it splutter. Next add the curry leaves along with green chilli and saute them together.
Step 3
Add the peanut and fry until it changes its colour. Put in the onion and saute.
Step 4
Add the turmeric powder and salt and stir them all together.
Step 5
Finally add the soaked poha and sugar. Cover and cook for eight to ten minutes.
Step 6
Squeeze the lemon juice and garnish with grated coconut and sev.
