Goa Shipyard Unveils New Fast Patrol Vessel
Vasco-da-Gama: Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, launched the Indian Coast Guard Ship ICGS Atal (Yard 1275) Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on July 29, 2025, in a ceremony held at Vasco-da-Gama, Goa.
It is the sixth in a series of eight state-of-the-art indigenously designed Fast Patrol Vessels being constructed for the Indian Coast Guard by Goa Shipyard Limited, the premier Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence.
The Defence Ministry claimed the launch reinforces India’s Indigenous Maritime power and Aatmanirbharta in shipbuilding. This vessel is the sixth in a series of eight indigenously designed Fast Patrol Vessels being constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited for the Indian Coast Guard.
The Fast Patrol Vessels, designed in-house at Goa Shipyard Limited, are 52 metres in length, with an 8-metre beam and 320-tonne displacement. These high-speed boats are equipped to conduct coastal patrols, island security missions, offshore asset protection, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, and search and rescue operations.
“The launch of ICGS Atal reflects the indomitable spirit of Team GSL and its unwavering commitment to indigenisation, innovation, and excellence in shipbuilding, even amidst global supply chain challenges,” Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman & Managing Director of Goa Shipyard Limited, said during the ceremony.
Rozy Agarwal, Principal Internal Financial Advisor at Coast Guard Headquarters and the chief guest, lauded Goa Shipyard Limited’s execution capabilities and its role in advancing the nation’s maritime security.
Senior dignitaries from the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, strategic industry partners, and Goa Shipyard Limited officials attended the event.
