In a day of fast developments, Rahul Gandhi was “pushed” by UP police and fell down;
Police filed FIR against Rahul and Priyanka for not wearing face mask;
and UP ADG Police claimed the girl was not raped
Lucknow: Taking suo motu cognisance of the Hathras gang rape incident and the death of the victim, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court today issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday. It asked Uttar Pradesh’s Principal Secretary, Director General of Police and District Magistrate of Hathras to be present on October 12. The court further directed that family members of the deceased victim — the father, the mother, brothers and sisters shall also be present before the Court so that Court could ascertain the facts and their version.
The order said: “The incidents which took place after the death of the victim on leading up to her cremation, as alleged, have shocked our conscience, therefore, we are taking suo moto cognizance of the same”.
The court further said “… we are inclined to examine as to whether there has been gross violation of the fundamental rights of the deceased victim and the family members of the victim; whether the State Authorities have acted oppressively high handedly and illegally to violate such rights as if it is found to be so, then, this would be 9 a case where accountability will not only have to be fixed but for future guidance also stern action would be required.”
In the meantime, the Delhi police imposed Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code around India Gate to prevent public gather there in protest.The Hathras administration too had imposed Section 144 in the district.
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who were on their way to Hathras to meet the family members of the dead rape victim, were stopped by UP police in Greater Noida. After the cops stopped his car, Rahul came out and started walking but was stopped by the cops. He was allegedly pushed by the cops and fell down on the ground. Rahul was later detained by the police. The Gautam Buddha Nagar police also lodged an FIR against Rahul, Priyanka and around 200 other party workers under the Epidemic Diseases Act for not maintaining social distancing and not wearing face masks.
Meanwhile, giving yet another twist to the case, Uttar Pradesh’s Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar cited a forensic science laboratory (FSL) report, claiming there was “no rape or gang rape”, and the cause of the death of the girl was an injury on the neck and trauma.
Later at night, the Congress Party through its official twitter handle posted a video of Congress workers bringing out a candle light procession and tweeted: “Under the leadership of PCC President Dr. @sailajanath, leaders & workers of @INC_Andhra stood strong with Shri@RahulGandhiji & Smt@priyankagandhiji in the fight against the cruel BJP Govt in UP & held a candle-light march, adding to the chorus of #JusticeForIndiasDaughters.”
