President confers Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shree, for 2022
New Delhi: The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, presented two Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan and fifty-four Padma Shri Awards for the year 2022 at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today in the presence of Vice President of India, Prime Minister and Union Minister for Home Affairs and other dignitaries.
Amongst the prominent awardees at today’s Investiture ceremony were Padma Vibhushan recipients – vocalist of Kirana Gharana, Dr Prabha Atre and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh (Posthumous). Padma Bhushan recipients were Satya Nadella, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft, CEO of Google and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, actors Victor Banerjee and Madhur Jaffrey, scientist Dr Sanjaya Rajaram (Posthumous), writer Dr Pratibha Ray, and Sanskrit scholar Acharya Vashishtha Tripathi as also Dr Krishna Murthy Ella and Suchitra Krishna Ella (Duo) of Bharat Biotech International Limited, the makers of COVID vaccine Covaxin.
This year a total of 128 Padma Awards were conferred, including two duo cases (in a duo case, the award is counted as one). The Civil Investiture Ceremony -1 was held on March 21, 2022. The list of awardees comprises four Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 107 Padma Shri Awards. 34 of the awardees were women and the list also included 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/Non-Resident Indians/People of Indian Origin/Overseas Citizens of India and 13 Posthumous awardees.
