New Delhi: La. Ganesan will be the 17th Governor of Manipur. A Rashtrapati Bhawan press communique stated he is appointed as Governor with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
The post of the Governor had fallen vacant after the retirement of Najma Heptulla, who had demitted office on August 10, 2021. Since then, Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad, was holding the additional charge of Manipur also.
76 year old Ganesan, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Tamil Nadu, is a former member of Rajya Sabha and is at present a BJP National Council member. He was also a pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh.
