New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday, presided over a meeting to expedite the implementation of Insurance scheme for health workers who are currently combating COVID 19 pandemic. The scheme falls under the aegis of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP).
The ministry disclosed that 87 claim documents had been submitted so far from the maze of 147 intimations received. A total of 15 claims had already been paid and four more were on the pipeline as they had been approved. Another 13 claims were under examination. However, a good quantum of claims was found to be ineligible totalling 55. They either fell outside the scope or deaths due to reasons other than COVID19.
The Finance Minister urged for speedy settlement of claims to enable the nominees to obtain their benefits at the earliest.
The attendees to the meet that was conducted through video conferencing included senior dignitaries from Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and New India Assurance Company Limited. The CMD of the insurance company provided details that highlighted the status of implementation of the scheme till date in a presentation made at the conference.
The mechanism used for coordinating with the state nodal authorities to expedite the insurance claims was showcased by the officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. They also discussed issues faced while reaching out to the families of deceased besides acquiring their legal heir certificate.
