Under International UDAN, two new aerial routes Agartala-Chittagong-Agartala and Imphal-Mandalay-Imphal will be operationalised: Scindia
New Delhi: Three flights connecting five cities of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Mizoram under Regional Connectivity Scheme Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (RCS UDAN) were inaugurated today by the Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia today.
While flights connecting Lilabari-Ziro-Lilabari will commence from today and operate 2 times a week, the flights connecting Shillong-Lilabari-Shillong under RCS UDAN will commence from tomorrow and operate 4 times a week.
The flight will be operated by Alliance Air and will be conducted as per the following schedule:
The Minister announced that under International UDAN, two new routes Agartala-Chittagong-Agartala and Imphal-Mandalay-Imphal will be operationalised which will expand the scope of air connectivity in the north-eastern states from national to the international level.
Scindia further pointed out that in the last eight years, seven airports have been developed in the Northeastern region. Under the UDAN scheme, 14% of routes were awarded to the northeast. Under UDAN 4.2, about 18% of routes were awarded to the northeast. A Rs 500 crore corpus was dedicated to the air connectivity of the northeast while under Krishi UDAN, 25 airports were incentivised in the region.
Mentioning that the government has given special emphasis on air connectivity for the north-eastern region, Scindia said the enhanced aerial connectivity in the mountainous cities of the five states of the north-eastern part of the country will play a vital role in creating the ease of living for the residents of the region and boosting tourism and trade.
The inauguration was attended among others, by Minister of State for Civil Aviation General Dr Vijay Kumar Singh (Retired), Pema Khandu Chief Minister, Arunachal Pradesh, N. Biren Singh Chief Minister, Manipur, Hemanta Biswa Sarma Chief Minister, Assam, Conrad Sangama Chief Minister of Meghalaya (by a pre-recorded video message), Kiren Rijiju Union Minister of Law and Justice, and other ministers and members of parliament from the states.
