Mumbai: The Indian Navy’s fifth Scorpene Submarine of Project 75, Yard 11879, started its sea trial today. The navy will name the submarine Vagir after commissioning, the Ministry of Defence stated today.
The submarine will go through rigorous trials of all its components at sea, including propulsion systems, weapons and sensors. After successful completion of its trials, Mazagon Dock will deliver this submarine to the Indian Navy later this year 2022.
Mumbai-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) had launched the Kalvari Class submarine from Kanhoji Angre Wet Basin last November.Mazagon Dock delivered two submarines of Project 75 in 2021 despite Covid 19 pandemic disrupting work schedules.
Mazagon Dock Limited share [NSE: Mazdok] closed 0.18 per cent down at Rs 273.70 when trading adjourned for the day this afternoon. The warship builder’s share had touched the peak of Rs 311.95 on November 9, 2021.
