Pralay Missile Aces Twin Flight Tests
New Delhi: The Defence Research & Development Organisation executed two consecutive flight tests of the indigenously developed Pralay missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha’s coast on July 28 and 29, 2025. Conducted as part of User Evaluation Trials, the tests validated the missile’s maximum and minimum range capabilities. Both missiles adhered precisely to their planned trajectories, striking designated targets with pinpoint accuracy and meeting all test objectives. Data from tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range, including ship-based instruments near the impact zones, confirmed the flawless performance of all subsystems.
Pralay, a solid-propellant quasi-ballistic missile, incorporates advanced guidance and navigation systems for exceptional precision. Designed to carry multiple warhead types, it can engage diverse targets effectively. The missile system emerged from collaborative efforts led by Research Centre Imarat, alongside contributions from Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research & Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), and Integrated Test Range. Industry partners, including Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, and numerous micro, small, and medium enterprises, played a pivotal role in its development.
Senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Air Force and Indian Army, and industry officials observed the trials. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the Defence Research & Development Organisation, Armed Forces, and industry for the achievement, noting that Pralay’s cutting-edge technology would significantly enhance India’s defence capabilities. Secretary, Department of Defence Research & Development and Defence Research & Development Organisation Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the teams, emphasising that the successful Phase-1 tests mark a critical step toward the missile’s induction into the Armed Forces in the near future.
