New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully carried out the ‘Release Trials of the Long-Range Glide Bomb’ (LRGB) named ‘Gaurav’ from the Sukhoi Su-30 MKI aircraft between April 8 and 10, 2025, the Defence Ministry stated here today. During these trials, the bomb was tested with various warhead configurations at multiple stations, targeting land objectives on an island. The tests confirmed a range of nearly 100 kilometers with high precision.
The Long Range Glide Bomb ‘Gaurav’ is a 1,000 kg class glide bomb, designed and developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat, Armament Research and Development Establishment and Integrated Test Range, Chandipur. Senior officials of the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Air Force (IAF) participated and reviewed these trials.
This system has been developed with the collaboration of partners such as Adani Defence Systems and Technologies, Bharat Forge, and several MSMEs, the Ministry said.
“These trials are a significant step towards integrating the weapon into the IAF,” the Ministry stated, adding that the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification and the Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance played key roles in ensuring certification and quality standards.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Indian Air Force, and the industry for their successful development trials of ‘Gaurav’, stating that this glide bomb will significantly boost the capabilities of the Armed Forces. Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO, also extended his congratulations to the entire DRDO team for their successful release trials.
