580 cases of Adverse Event Following Immunisation so far in the country
New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) today sought to clarify today that of the two deaths reported, death of the 52 year male from Moradabad, UP (who was vaccinated on January 16, 2021 and died on evening of January 17, 2021) was not related to vaccination as per the post mortem report. “Death was caused due to cardiopulmonary disease,” it claimed.
The second death was of a male person aged 43 years, who was a resident of Bellary, Karnataka. He was vaccinated on January 16, 2021 and died today. The cause of death was anterior wall infarction with Cardiopulmonary failure. The post mortem is scheduled today at Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary, Karnataka.
In all 580 cases of Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI), which means any unexpected medical occurrence which follows immunisation, have been reported so far during the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination program, which completed its third day today. “It may or may not be related to the vaccine or vaccination process,” the MoHFW stated.
Providing details, the MoHFW said out of the 580 cases, seven had required hospitalisation. Of the three cases reported from Delhi, two had been discharged whereas once case with reporting fainting was under observation at Max Hospital, Patparganj.
The Ministry further said that the reported case of AEFI in Uttarakhand was stable and under observation at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh. In Chhattisgarh, one person was under observation at the Government Medical College, Rajnandgaon. Of the two cases of AEFI in Karnataka, one was under observation at District Hospital, Chitradurga and the second person was under observation at General Hospital, Challakere, Chitradurga.
A total of 3,81,305 beneficiaries had been vaccinated till today through 7,704 sessions, as per the provisional report. Of them, 1,48,266 beneficiaries were vaccinated till 5 pm today, the third day of nationwide COVID19 vaccination.
