President also appoints Chief Justices of four High Courts
New Delhi: Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Tamil Nadu will discharge the functions of the Governor of Punjab, in addition to his own duties from the date he assumes charge of the office of the Governor of Punjab, until regular arrangements are made.
The President today also appointed Purohit to be the Administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh, in addition to his duties as Governor of Punjab.
Meanwhile, the President today also appointed Chief Justices of Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat and Sikkim High Courts.
Justice Mamidanna Satya Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao, senior-most Judge of Telangana High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Justice Hima Kohli relinquishes the charge as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court consequent upon her appointment as Judge of the Supreme Court of lndia.
Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, senior-most Judge of Kamataka High Court, will perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from date Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka relinquishes the charge as Chief Justice of the Kamataka High Court consequent upon his appointment as Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
Justice Vineet Kothari, senior-most Judge of Gujarat High Court, will perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Justice Vikram Nath relinquishes the charge as Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court consequent upon his appointment as Judge of the Supreme Court of India. Justice Rashmin Manharbhai Chhaya, senior-most Judge of Gujarat High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court with effect from September, 2021 consequent upon the retirement of Justice Vineet Kothari.
Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai, senior-most Judge of Sikkim High Court, will perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the dateJustice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari relinquishes the charge as Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court consequent upon his appointment as Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
