Tokyo/New Delhi: Shooter Avani Lekhara becomes first Indian woman to win 2 Paralympic medals after she claimed the 50m Rifle 3 Position SH1 bronze today. Earlier the 19-year-old had already won the Gold in the 10m air rifle standing SH1 event.
Archer Harvinder Singh also won the Bronze Medal at the Paralympics Games in Tokyo today.
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur facilitated Paralympic Games medallists Sumit Antil (Javelin Throw F64 Gold Medal), Devendra Jhajharia (Javelin Throw F46 Silver Medal), Yogesh Kathuniya (Discus Throw F56 Silver Medal) and Sharad Kumar (High Jump T63 Bronze medal) in New Delhi today.
Sumit not only won the gold in Javelin Throw but also created world record. Devendra grabbed silver medal, with a personal best throw of 64.35. This was his third medal at Paralympic Games. Yogesh Kathuniya won silver medal in Discus Throw and Sharad Kumar won the bronze medal in men’s high jump.
With two Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze medals to its kitty, India has already equaled the Paralympics medal tally vis-vis all the previous Paralympics, in Tokyo. India had sent the largest contingent so far and this team performed the best ever and took the number of medals into double digits.
