Jaipur: At least 14 people were feared killed as the boat carrying them capsized in Chambal river under Khatoli police station of Kota district today morning. The boat had over 40 devotees who were crossing the river to visit a temple at Indergarh in Rajasthan’s Bundi district.
Police said while 11 bodies could be recovered till today evening, three persons were still missing and the National Disaster Response Force was carrying out the rescue operation to locate three missing persons. Police said about 25 persons had managed to swim to safety.
While Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced an ex-gratia of ₹1 lakh each to the next of the kin of the people who died in the incident, in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives due to capsizing of the boat.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “Anguished by the capsizing of a boat in Kota, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones.”
