Mann stated that as a farmer and a union leader, he will always stand with “my farmers and Punjab”. He said in a press statement dated January 14, 2021: “…in view of the prevailing sentiments and apprehensions amongst the farm unions and public in general, I am ready to sacrifice any position offered or given to me so as to not compromise the interests of Punjab and farmers of the country…”
Welcoming his decision to recuse, a prominent Sanyukt Kisan Morcha leader Rakesh Tikait of the Bharatiya Kisan Union stated today that Mann’s move to dissociate himself from the committee was an “ideological victory” of the movement against the farm laws.
“We are happy that the farmer in him has awakened now and we invite Bhupendra Singh Mann to join this movement,” Tikait said.
