New Delhi: All seven missing Army personnel of 19 JAK Rifles patrol team, who were struck by an avalanche in Kameng Sector in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh on February 6, 2022 were dead, the Indian Army said today.
The incident had happened in a very remote area along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) where all roads got blocked due to snowfall. Specialised search and rescue team had been airlifted to assist the subsequent rescue operations. “The bravehearts made supreme sacrifice in line of duty at icy heights of 14500 ft & treacherous terrain under inclement weather conditions in Kameng Sector. Eastern Command offers deepest condolences to the families,” Eastern Command of Indian Army stated in a tweet.
Those killed in the avalanche were Havaldar Jugal Kishore, Rifleman Arun Kattal, Rifleman Akshay Pathania, Rifleman Vishal Sharma, Rifleman Rakesh Singh, Rifleman Ankesh Bhardwaj and Gunner Gurbaj Singh.
Condolences started pouring in from all quarters of society following the news of their death. “The death of soldiers due to an avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh is a tragedy beyond words. The brave soldiers laid down their lives for the service of the nation. Their selfless sacrifice will always be remembered. My condolences to their families,” President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted today.
In his tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives of the seven Army personnel and said, “We will never forget their exemplary service to our nation”.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that he was deeply pained by the demise of Indian Army personnel. “…These brave soldiers lost their lives while serving the nation. I salute their courage and service. My heartfelt condolences to their bereaved families,” he tweeted.
Army Chief General MM Naravane too offered deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the high altitude area of Kameng Sector in Arunachal Pradesh.
