
New Delhi: Amidst heightened terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir in the last few days, Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that strong steps are being taken for the ‘Zero Terror Plan’ in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
The Indian Army reported today that two soldiers lost their lives today in a suspected IED attack carried out by terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir. In a separate incident yesterday, a soldier stationed at a forward post in the Kalal area of the Nowshera sector sustained critical injuries from gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district. around 2:40 pm. On February 8, an army patrol was targeted by gunfire from a forest area across the LoC in the Keri sector, where terrorists seemed to be poised for an infiltration attempt. In response, Indian troops returned fire, and the anti-infiltration measures in the region were subsequently enhanced to maintain close surveillance.
Shah chaired high-level meetings in New Delhi to review the security scenario and directed the Border Security Force (BSF) to ensure zero infiltration from the international borders by adopting strong vigil, strengthening the border grid and using advanced technologies for surveillance and border guarding. He also reviewed the winter action plan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and directed the latter to ensure there are no gaps in area domination. He directed CRPF to continue with the synergy with the Indian Army and J&K Police and instructed it to focus on the Jammu region and dominate the heights.
The Union Home Minister also reviewed the intelligence apparatus working in Jammu and Kashmir and directed them to increase coverage and penetration to generate quality intelligence. He reiterated the importance of technology in intelligence generation. He stressed that monitoring financing, tightening grip over Narco-terror cases and dismantling the entire terror ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir are priorities for the government.
Shah also directed them to focus on countering the negative propaganda by the anti-national elements to place the correct picture in the public domain. He instructed them to continue with the synergy amongst the agencies and guided them to adopt technology and increase intelligence. He directed all security agencies to remain alert and continue work in a synergies mode to eliminate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. He assured them of all the resources to be made available in this endeavour.
The Home Ministry stated that today’s high-level meetings were in continuation of the high-level meetings with the Indian Army and J&K Police held on February 4 and 5, 2025. Union Home Secretary, Director (IB), Director Generals of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) and other senior officers attended the meetings.
