Pathankot: Following deaths of his uncle and cousin, who were attacked by robbers in Pathankot district on August 19, former India batsman Suresh Raina today took to twitter and requested Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to look into the matter.
“What happened to my family is Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was slaughtered to death, my bua & both my cousins had severe injuries. Unfortunately my cousin also passed away last night after battling for life for days. My bua is still very very critical & is on life support,”Raina tweeted.

Police said Raina’s relatives were attacked with deadly weapons at midnight in Thariyal village of Pathankot on August 19, when the family was sleeping on the roof of their house. Raina’s aunt Asha Devi was badly injured in this attack. Her husband Ashok Kumar,58, was killed. Raina’s cousin Kaushal Kumar 32, and Apin Kumar 24, were also badly injured.
“Till date we don’t know what exactly had happened that night & who did this. I request @PunjabPoliceInd to look into this matter. We at least deserve to know who did this heinous act to them. Those criminals should not be spared to commit more crimes”. Raina said in another tweet. He also tagged Punjab police and Chief minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh.
Last week, Raina had pulled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 due to personal reasons. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO KS Vishwanathan on August 29 had informed on social media about Raina’s withdrawal from the IPL and said that the entire team was with his family at this time. “Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh and his family during this time.” Viswanathan tweeted from the official Chennai Super Kings’ handle.
IPL 2020 is slated to be played from September 19 to November 10, across three venues in the UAE — Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai.
