Jaipur: The Ashok Gehlot government won the the floor test of the state Assembly here on Friday. The motion of confidence moved by the Congress was passed by voice vote. This was expected after the return of the 19 dissident MLAs led by Sachin Pilot to the party-fold soon after the reconciliation effectuated by the Congress high command stepping in to resolve the political imbroglio in the Rajasthan Congress,.
After the voting, Assembly Speaker CP Joshi adjourned the house till August 21. In a House of 200, the Congress party has 107 MLAs and the support of Independents and allies. while the BJP has 72 members.
After winning the trust vote, Chief Minister Gehlot tweeted: “Winning the trust vote in the Assembly is a message to the forces that are trying to destabilize elected govts in the country. Their every tactic failed in Rajasthan. It is the people’s unwavering trust in us & unity of our Congress MLAs that has brought this victory.”
Sachin Pilot meawhile adorned a new cap expressing his solidarity with the Party and describing himself as a “Strong warrior for the Congress.”
Members of the BJP implied that it was an internal war and the Congress is ill-advised to blame the BJP for any attempt to topple the government, but Gehlot cited earlier attempts made by the BJP in states like Madhya Pradesh and Manipur.
The row that had erupted between former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and his camp of MLAs and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s camp was attributed to a taped conversation that disclosed that there was a plot to topple the government. Subsequently, it led to a spate of allegations and counter allegations with both the political parties and the Congress rebels seeking judicial intervention to resolve the matter.

The Party high command came to the rescue of the Congress legislative party almost in the eleventh hour.
