New Delhi: Former President Pranab Mukherjee was on ventilator support after undergoing a brain surgery to remove a clot on Monday. He was also tested positive for Coronavirus.
The 84-year-old Mukherjee, who was India’s President between 2012 and 2017, had tweeted on Monday afternoon, “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Army Hospital (Referral & Research) in New Delhi and met the Doctors to enquire about the health of the former President. “I pray for his well being and speedy recovery,” he tweeted.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi was among the leaders who wished the former President “a speedy recovery”. West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: “Concerned to hear about Former President Pranab Mukherjee Da testing positive for #COVID19. My prayers are with him & his family during this time and I wish him a speedy recovery.”
