Doha: Continuing his two-day trip to Qatar after Iranian missiles hit Israel, Iran’s President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian met and discussed with the high-ranking delegation of the Islamic Resistance Movement of Hamas here on the evening of Wednesday, October 2, 2024, evening.
Dr Pezeshkian emphasized during the meeting with the Hamas leaders that Iran’s attack took place “in accordance with the laws stipulated in the United Nations Charter for the right of legitimate defence”.
Today at a joint press conference with the Emir of Qatar, the Iranian President said, “We are not looking for war; It is the Zionist regime that forces us to react”.
Dr Pezeshkian, at a meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue Forum, depicted the borders of barbarism in a new dimension: the crimes of the Zionists. “The foundation of the Zionist regime is based on terror, war-mongering and genocide,” he claimed. He referred to the killing of a top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated just after he attended the inauguration of Dr Pezeshkian as Iran’s new president in Tehran on August 1, 2024.
“The Zionist regime assassinated our guest in Tehran; We waited for the sake of peace, but the cowardly Zionists became more aggressive and committed crimes in Gaza and Lebanon that no human being has committed in history,” Dr Pezeshkian said.

It may be mentioned that Hamas has refused to engage in the Gaza ceasefire talks. After Iran’s missile attacks on Israel, the United States has maintained that it was an unprecedented action by Iran to launch nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel, and while Israel had a right to respond, Washington would discuss with Tel Aviv what the latter’s response might look like even as it doesn’t want to see any action that would lead to a full-blown regional war. The US is also against Israel attacking Iran’s nuclear sites, for the same reason.
During the visit of the Iranian President, high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Qatar signed six documents and memorandums of understanding on cooperation in various economic and commercial, cultural, educational and sports sectors.
