New Delhi: The Cyclonic Storm ‘Asani’ is very likely to intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over the east-central Bay of Bengal in the next few hours, the India Meteorological Department stated today. Severe Cyclonic Storms have storm force wind speeds of between 55–72 mph.
‘Asani” moved northwestwards with a speed of 13 KMPH during the past 6 hours till 8 am today and lay centred at 0300 Utc of today over the same region near latitude 11.4°North and longitude 89.1°East, about 480 km west-northwest of Car Nicobar, 400 km west of Port Blair, 940 Km southeast of Visakhapatnam (43149) and 1000 km south- southeast of Puri.
It is very likely to continue to move northwestwards till 1200 Utc of May 10 and reach west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move towards the northwest Bay Of Bengal off the Odisha coast.
