Delhi remains the most affected State with Omicron variant of COVID-19
New Delhi: The number of Corona cases is rising rapidly and has more than doubled in the two days – from 6,358 cases on December 28, 2021, to 13,154 new cases today – a jump of 3959 new cases since yesterday.
Delhi with 263 cases continues to remain the worst affected State with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the country. Maharashtra follows with 252 such cases. Gujarat is placed at number three most affected state with 97 cases of Omicron. Omicron was also reported from Punjab in the last 24 hours, thus making it the 22nd State to be affected by the Corona variant. Incidentally, the Union Territory of Chandigarh – the capital of Punjab and Haryana – has already reported 3 such cases.
Yesterday, Delhi had reported 238 cases followed by Maharashtra’s 167, and Gujarat’s 73 cases. Kerala was at the fourth position with 65 cases but with no more Omicron case reported there in the last 24 hours, Rajasthan today replaced it with 69 such cases, reporting a jump of 23 cases during this period. India’s Active caseload currently stands at 82,402, and the Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.38%, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated here today.
The Ministry assured that the testing capacity across the country has been expanded, with a total of 11,99,252 tests conducted in the last 24 hours. India has so far conducted over 67.64 Crore (67,64,45,395) cumulative tests.
While testing capacity has been enhanced across the country, Weekly Positivity Rate at 0.76% remains less than 1% for the last 46 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 1.10%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 2% for last 87 days and below 3% for 122 consecutive days now.
