New Delhi: Biennial elections for state legislative councils in four states will take place on December 10 and the counting will be held on December 14, 2021, the Election Commission stated here today.
The biennial elections will be held for 11 seats in Andhra from 8 Local Authorities’ Constituencies, 25 seats of Karnataka Legislative Council from 20 Local Authorities’ Constituencies, 12 seats of Telangana from 9 Local Authorities’ Constituencies, and 6 seats of Maharashtra Legislative Council from 5 Local Authorities’ Constituencies.
In Andhra, biennial elections to fill up 11 seats could not be conducted by August 11, 2021 as the Constituent Local Bodies/Electors were not in existence at that time.
In Karnataka, the term of office of the 25 sitting members of Karnataka Legislative Council from 20 Local Authorities’ Constituencies is going to expire on January 5, 2022, while in Telangana, 12 members are due to retire on January 4, 2022. In Maharashtra, the six Council seats fall vacant due to retirement of sitting members on January 1, 2022.
