Prime Minister congratulates shooters and women wrestlers for their showing at world championships
Lima/New Delhi: Indian shooters made a clean sweep by winning all the medals in the four events on the final day of ISSF Junior World Championships here today.
It was an all Indian affair today at the championship. In the 25m Standard Pistol Men Junior event in which Vijayveer Sidhu won the gold medal, Udhayveer Sidhu, silver, and Harsh Gupta took the bronze. Similarly in the women’s category, Rhythm Sangwan clinched the gold medal while Niveditha Nair Veloor won silver and Naamya Kapoor took the bronze medal.
In 50m Pistol Men Junior event, Arjun Singh Cheema won the gold medal, Shaurya Sarin, silver, and Ajinkya Chavan finished with bronze. Again in the women’s category, Shikha Narwal stood first, Easha Singh stood second, and Navdeep Kaur won bronze.
With overall 40 medals including 16 gold, 15 silver and 9 bronze, India finished at the top in medal standings, followed by the USA (21 medals including 7 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze), and Italy (10 medals).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian shooters for topping the medal tally and tweeted: “Outstanding performance by our shooters! India emerges on top of the medal tally at the Shooting Junior World Championships with 40 medals including 16 Golds. Congratulations to the team and best wishes for the future. This success will inspire several budding shooters.”
Meanwhile, Modi today also congratulated Anshu Malik for winning Silver medal and Sarita Mor for winning Bronze medal at World Wrestling Championship 2021 in Oslo on October 7.
The Prime Minister tweeted : “Congratulations to @OLyAnshu for winning the Silver and @saritamor3 for winning the Bronze at the World Wrestling Championship 2021. Best wishes to these outstanding athletes for their future endeavours.”
