Mumbai: Mohan S. Delkar, the sitting Member of Parliament from Dadra and Nagar Haveli who had represented the same constituency in Parliament seven time, was found dead in a city hotel here today.
The body of the 58-year-old Parliamentarian was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his hotel room, the police investigating the case, said. A suicide note written in Gujarati, was also recovered from the spot the police said. Unsubstantiated reports said Mohanbhai, as Delkar was popularly called, had blamed harassment by bureaucracy for his suicide.
The Police has registered an accidental death report (ADR) and said investigations were in progress.
Delkar, who was an Independent MP, had first won the seat as an Independent in 1989. However, he retained the seat in 1991 and 1996 by contesting successfully on the Congress Party ticket. In 1999 he had again won as an Independent and 2004, he had won as a candidate of Bharatiya Navshakti Party, a political outfit that he had floated. In 2009 and 2014, he lost to Bharatiya Janata Party’s Nathubhai Patel but won again in 2019 polls as an Independent.
