New Delhi: Ministry of Railways has rechristened the name of Train No. 12311/12312 Howrah-Kalka Mail as “Netaji Express”. It is noteworthy that Howrah -Kalka Mail is a very popular and one of the oldest trains of Indian Railways. The train is running between Howrah (Eastern Railway) and Kalka (Northern Railway) via Delhi.
The decision is part of the year long celebrations to commemorate 125th birth anniversary year of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which will formally commence on January 23, 2021, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the inaugural event of the celebrations being held at Victoria Memorial Kolkata. The Government has already decided to celebrate Netaji’s birthday that falls on January 23, as Parakram Diwas every year. A commemorative coin and postage stamp will also be released on this day.

Moreover, the Ministry of Education has proposed to establish 5 chairs on Netaji in five Indian Universities, while National Film Development Corporation under Ministry of Information & Broadcasting would be organising a short-film competition on ‘How to fulfil Netaji’s dreams for India’.
