John Abraham was born in Kerala in 1958. After graduation he came to Mumbai – the invariable city of dreams. He studied photo journalism at the prestigious Xavier Institute of Communications. He started his career as freelancer for The Illustrated Weekly of India, The Week, and other publications before he took up a full time assignment with The Free Press Journal. He then moved to The Observer group and after a few years joined The Pioneer only to rejoin the Observer group as Chief Photographer. He then moved to Dubai and joined the Khaleej Times there. He lost interest in photography after it became digital and completely left it and settled down in Kochi till globalbihari.com cajoled him to revisit his works. “I still love Black and White photography,” he says. We showcase his photographs in this new series on Mumbai life of the ’90s.
