Guwahati: An earthquake measuring 5.6 on Richter Scale occurred in Myanmar-India (Mizoram) border at 15:42:32 IST today. The epicentre was Latitude 23.10 North, and Longitude 93.75 East, at the depth of 60 km. More details are awaited.
Earlier on January 17, 2022, two earthquakes of smaller intensity had occurred in the North east region. The first one was of magnitude 3.5 with epicentre in Cachar, Assam at the depth of 35 km, and the other of 3.8 magnitude in Kangpokpi in Manipur.
The region has been witnessing increased seismic activities in recent times.
