Rescue operations at accident site
Sidhi: At least 45 passengers were dead while nine others could be rescued safely after a bus heading from Sidhi to Satna fell into a canal in Shardhapathak village after the driver lost control of the vehicle on Tuesday morning. The dead included 24 men, 20 women, and 1 child and their bodies were recovered from the canal by the State Disaster Response Force personnel and divers who had rushed to the spot.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan later told media persons that the rescue operation were over. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs each for the next of kin of those who died in the accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for the next of kin of the deceased from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund and Rs 50,000 for those who were seriously injured.
