Bhagalpur: A powerful blast in an alleged illegal firecracker unit killed at least fourteen people, including five members of a family, around 11.30 pm on Thursday March 3, 2o22. At least 10 others were injured in the incident.
The firecracker unit was being run from a house in Kajiwalichak area of the city. Police said that the house belonged to Mohammed Azad who had rented it out to one Leelawati Devi. The house collapsed and three adjoining houses too partially caved in under the impact of the blast. Police said three families stayed in these houses. Leelawati and four other members of her family died in the blast. The injured were taken to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital.
The Anti Terrorist Squad of the Bihar Police is investigating the matter on whether the unit was also making crude bombs. Bihar’s Director General of Police SK Singhal told reporters that Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) samples were being collected.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on the situation related to the incident and said that the administration was engaged in relief and rescue operations, and all possible assistance was being provided to the victims. Modi also expressed sadness over the loss of lives in the explosion.
