Mahad (Raigadh District): At least 13 persons were killed after a seven-year-old five-storeyed building with 41 flats, collapsed here at around 6.45 pm on Monday.
Rescue operation was still being carried out for more than 24 hours by three teams of the National Disaster Response Force and its canine squad, and about a dozen fire brigade and police teams . At least 78 persons were already rescued by them from the debris of the building, while Mahad legislator Bharat Gogawale told a Marathi news channel that “over 200 people are stuck inside”.
Police sources said the building, Tarique Garden, in the residential Kajalpura area was seven years old. around 40 families resided in the building. The Raigad police has registered a case under Sections 304, 304 A, 337, 338 and 34, against five persons including the builder.

President Ram Nath Kovind expressed his distress over the news of loss of lives in the building collapse at Mahad, Raigad in Maharashtra. “My thoughts and prayers are with the accident victims. I wish speedy recovery of the injured. Local authorities and NDRF teams are coordinating rescue and relief efforts,” the President tweeted.Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweet, stated: “”Saddened by the building collapse in Mahad, Raigad in Maharashtra. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their dear ones. I pray the injured recover soon. Local authorities and NDRF teams are at the site of the tragedy, providing all possible assistance.”
