Aizawl: A third earthquake within four days, this time of magnitude 4.1 on Richter Scale, hit the region on Wednesday morning at 08:02:36 IST. The epicentre of earthquake, recorded at the depth of 10 km, was at Latitude:23.18 North and Longitude: 93.25 East, which was close to the epicentre of the last quake on early Monday morning, in Champhai district of Mizoram.
Earlier, two earthquakes within 24 hours of each other and respectively of magnitude 5.3 and 5.1 on Richter Scale had hit the state. The first was on Sunday afternoon at 16:16:24 IST with epicenter 25 km East-Northeast of Aizawl, while the second on early Monday morning had its epicentre in Champhai district.

While no loss of lives were reported, roads and building had developed cracks then.
More details are awaited of today’s quake. Sources in India Meteorological Department don’t rule it out as an “aftershock”.
